On June 16, 2022, people all over the world will be celebrating Clean Air Day. This special day is dedicated to raising awareness of air pollution and its effects on our health. And while most of us are aware of the dangers of outdoor air pollution, many of us don’t realize that indoor air pollution can be just as dangerous – if not more so.

That’s why, on Clean Air Day, we’re raising awareness about the dangers of indoor air pollution and what you can do to protect yourself and your family.

Indoor Air Pollution Causes and Risks

Indoor air pollution is created by a variety of sources, including cooking stoves, candles, fireplaces, cleaning chemicals, and even some types of building materials. And while most of us believe that we’re safe from air pollution when we’re indoors, the truth is that indoor air can be just as polluted – if not more so – than outdoor air.

In fact, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the levels of some pollutants are actually two to five times higher indoors than they are outdoors. And those pollutants can have serious consequences for our health, including respiratory problems, headaches, and even cancer.

So what can you do to protect yourself from indoor air pollution?

There are a few simple steps you can take:

  1. Make sure your home is well-ventilated. Open windows and doors regularly to let fresh air in and help to remove pollutants from your home.
  2. Use natural cleaning products whenever possible. Many conventional cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can contribute to indoor air pollution.
  3. Avoid using candles or incense. Both of these can release harmful pollutants into the air.
  4. Don’t smoke indoors. Cigarette smoke is one of the most harmful indoor air pollutants.
  5. Invest in an air purifier. Air purifiers can help to remove pollutants from the air, making it safer to breathe.

On Clean Air Day, let’s all pledge to do our part to reduce indoor air pollution and protect our health. Together, we can make a difference.
